Equality and Diversity

NHS Berkshire West CCG is committed to delivering and promoting the values of equality and diversity in line with the Equality Act 2010 and the NHS Constitution. We continually strive to remove inequalities and improve the health of our population through fair, accessible, open and appropriate services according to need.

All children and adults in our local population should receive equal access to care and treatment regardless of: age, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation, marriage or civil partnership status.
We embed the principles and practices of equality and diversity in the commissioning of services, patient and public engagement, through our provider assurance process and in our workforce policies and practice.

Our equality and diversity objectives are based on the NHS Equality Delivery System, which are:

  • To improve health outcomes for everyone in our population area
  • To make effective use of equality data in commissioning services
  • To increase awareness of the Equality agenda within CCGs and Membership practices
  • To improve equality data collection to inform service development
  • To empower, engage and include staff
  • To improve staff training and development opportunities
  • To ensure inclusive leadership at all levels
  • To ensure Board members, senior and middle managers understand equality, diversity and human rights
