From 1 April 2016, NHS England delegated responsibility for commissioning primary medical services to Clinical Commissioning Groups. This means that Berkshire West CCG makes decisions on the review, planning and procurement of primary care services in the area. This work is undertaken by the CCG's Primary Care Commissioning Committee and Primary Care Programme Board.
The CCG’s Primary Care Team works to ensure that all patients in Berkshire West have access to high quality general practice services. They are also responsible for implementing the Primary Care Elements of the NHS Long Term Plan in Berkshire West.
The NHS Long Term Plan sets a direction of travel for primary care services. This is now supported by changes to GP practice contracts outlined in Investment and Evolution – a five year framework for GP contract reform. In Berkshire West we are now working with our practices and other partner organisations to agree a programme of work to develop and sustain primary care services. This will build upon our previous Primary Care Strategy and our General Practice Forward View Implementation Plan. Our Primary Care Team is based at Bath Road, Reading and works closely with the CCG’s management team.
