Community and local help available

Below are details of where you can get and offer help in your local community:

  • Reading Borough Council - information here
    One Reading Community Hub Support and Volunteer Line 0808 1894325 (freephone) from 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday. 

    If you need extra help during the Coronavirus outbreak - or want to offer a helping hand: A new Community Hub has been created for Reading Borough Council residents needing additional support during the outbreak for those wanting to volunteer their time or services, and for businesses who have the resources to help support the community.   • West Berkshire Council - information here
    In partnership with Volunteer Centre West Berkshire and Greenham Trust, West Berkshire Council has created a Community Support Hub page to give guidance and help coordinate organisations representing their communities.

  • Wokingham Borough Council - information here
    Wokingham Borough Council is working with local charities to provide a community wide response to help vulnerable people. The Wokingham Borough community hub has opened its doors to provide food, toiletries and other essential items for those most in need. You can also make donations.
    If you know of anyone in need of support, please contact Citizen’s Advice on 0300 330 1189 (entering (0118) 978 7258 if prompted) Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. You can also visit their website and complete the online form.

  • St Bernard Support (SBS) online & telephone financial wellbeing help sessions for people affected by cancer and other illnesses
    Further to the Government's recent restrictions, because of Covid-19, St Bernard Support (SBS) continues to provide their services for people affected by life affecting illnesses such as cancer, heart disease etc over the telephone and via online webinars/web-meetings. 

    SBS continues to host online and telephone help sessions on financial wellbeing matters for people with cancer and other illnesses, their families and their carers.
    The online help sessions take place every 2nd Tuesday of each month with hourly sessions starting from 10am and ending at 9pm. Individual one-to-one sessions are also available online or by telephone at other times.

    SBS does not charge people accessing their online or telephone help sessions and anybody is free to participate, whether they be an individual affected by an illness, a family member or a professional caregiver. Individuals who wish to participate in the help sessions need to e-mail or telephone 0800 7720723 to book a time.
