Training available to care homes

In order to provide the greatest care for residents, care home staff need to have the right mix of skills and expertise. We're committed to providing training and helping staff to develop their knowledge base where possible. 

Training Provided by Care Home Support Team
  • Bespoke training
    We currently identify gaps in training and education through regular meetings with our care homes and partners. Training is provided by team members who have a back ground of Physical and Mental nursing, Physio therapy, Occupational therapy and Speak and language therapy.

  • Social Care online training:

    Some of the training areas that we cover are:

The Team also carries out Role Modelling. Working alongside staff helps to demonstrate good practices and support the team with any difficulties the staff/home are facing.

Training provided by Skills for Care

Skills for Care offer a range of workshops and webinars, some of which are free and some are charged for. Full details can be found here.

Health Education England’s e-Learning for Healthcare (HEE e-LfH)

Health Education England’s e-Learning for Healthcare (HEE e-LfH) is free access to learning resources for all care homes.
Care home staff can access the resources by registering on the e-LfH portal. To obtain a registration code specific to the care home please contact your manager.

Training provided by Berkshire Health Foundation Trust (BHFT)

Care homes can access a range of clinical and non-clinical from BHFT via the following link SLATE/TRAINING PROSPECTUS
Training fee of £50 for half day training and £100 for a full day.

Training provided by South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) 

SCAS can offer practical training on clinical observations including the taking and recording of:

  • pulse oximetry
  • respiratory rate
  • heart/pulse rate
  • blood pressure
  • temperature
  • level of consciousness

This training will help support care home staff with remote assessments of residents by HCP and monitoring.

The Team can also provide training in the assessment of non-injury falls and advice on safely lifting any non-injured fallers.

Care Homes Training Programme

The Gold Standards Framework Care Homes Training programme is the most widely used training programme for all care homes in the UK, supporting all elderly residents as they near the end of their lives. Since 2004, over 2300 care homes have been trained, with up to 200 a year accredited.  After a decade of successful delivery we are announcing new flexible ways of learning.

Free online ‘Medicines Use in Care Home’ modules for care home staff

This can be accessed via this link:

  • You will need to “register” with Prescqipp (grey box at the top)
  • Then select ‘I work for a care provider but do NOT have an NHS e-mail address’
  • Then under “Organisation” please ensure you select “Berkshire West”
  • Then go to the ‘Access E-learning’ blue box and you should get in
