Priory Avenue Surgery

Since September 2016 GP services at Priory Avenue Surgery have been provided by One Medical Group. There have been ongoing issues relating to staffing and service delivery and whilst some improvements have been made, One Medical Group has found it difficult to recruit permanent GPs and other staff. By mutual agreement Berkshire West Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and One Medical Group have therefore decided to terminate the contract for Priory Avenue.

The CCG’s priority is to ensure that patients receive high quality general practice services from surgeries that are large enough to provide modern primary care and be viable in the long-term. The current registered list size of just over 6,000 patients is considered to be too small to attract staff and offer the full range of primary care services going forward.
It is therefore with regret that the CCG has concluded that the best option for patients of Priory Avenue Surgery is to close the surgery on 30th June 2018 and ask patients to register with another local GP practice.

We have written to all patients to inform them of the closure and advise which surgeries are accepting new patients within their locality. There are two letters:

  1. Letter for patients living within the catchment areas of Balmore Park and Emmer Green.
If patients would like to register with one of these surgeries they need to complete the attached registration form, indicating their preferred surgery and return it to 57-59 Bath Road, Reading by 13th June 2018.
Other possible surgeries are listed here and a comparison available here.
  2. The letter for other patients, provides a list of local practices where they should be able to register as long as their postcode is within the surgery catchment area. A comparison table of the local practices can be found here. Patients will need to check with the practice directly whether they are able to register you. A registration form is available here.

Two patient events are being organised where current patients can ask questions about these plans. The meetings are going to be held at Caversham Hall, St Johns Road, Caversham, RG4 5AN on the 29th May and the 6th June 2018. More information can be found here.
